现代改编形式
第一个对"泛凯尔特音乐"(Pan-Celtic music)进行尝试的是布列塔尼的Taldir Jaffrennou不知因何故而实现，他将爱尔兰，苏格兰，威尔士的歌谣翻译成布列塔尼语，这些歌曲在两次世界大战间在布列塔尼流行起来。

近代Celtic的音乐能发展的很好是有其一定的特殊性，这都要归功于六十年代的民谣音乐复兴运动，这波由同时具备歌手及词曲创作身份的Bob Dylan(鲍伯迪伦)所带领的民谣风潮，齐集众多歌手，词曲作家，乐手，乐队及唱片公司共同携手创造出一个新民谣时代，这股新民谣风对英国 、爱尔兰及法国影响更大，纷纷开始反省及融合自己的传统音乐，让Celtic音乐呈现出更丰富精彩的生命力。

Celtic音乐在各地的发展过程大不相同，无疑的，爱尔兰是发展的最好，不论是传统的古典乐、乡村乐、传统音乐，甚至是流行歌曲，里面一 定少不了Celtic的味道及独特乐器，有静谧的Airs(空灵之音)及Sean Nos(古语吟唱)也有Jigs and Reels(吉格舞与利尔舞)的热情。苏格兰也 有其特殊性，独具的苏格兰风笛让Celtic闪烁着不同的光芒。英格兰也颇为自然，在与自己的乡村民谣结合后也极为热闹。其他几个地方也各具特色，一起来看看吧！

爱尔兰的发展

Bob Dylan的出现给爱尔兰传统Celtic艺人很多启发，在此之前，交响乐一直有其重要地位，七十年代初期Planxty乐团的 出现让Celtic音乐有了决定性的发展，Planxty起初还只是Christy Moore的专属乐队，后来加入了风笛(Uilleann Pipes) 高手Liam O'Flynn及Donal Lunny的鲜活音符，让其他乐团大为震惊并起而效尤，Celtic音乐潮流很快的就像洪水漫延开 来，追随者包括The Bothy Band、De Dannan、Moving Hearts、Clannad(克兰 纳德乐团)，到九十年代仍然有Altan、Four Men and A Dog及Deanta沿续 Celtic传奇。其实传统的Celtic一直潜藏在乡镇里，一些乐团常会在表演流行歌曲时，同时也会唱一些爱尔兰乡村歌曲。六十年代早期，Cork( 爱尔兰南部一个大城)出现了一位很有名的作曲家兼大键琴家Sean O Riada，组了一支很成功的古典交响乐团Ceoltoiri Chualann，首次将传统 爱尔兰的传统音乐融入在作品里，他虽然在1971年去世，但乐团里的首席风笛手(Master Piper) Paddy Moloney后来带着这些珍贵的传统爱尔 兰元素组成了目前在国际享有崇高地位的The Chieftans(酋长乐队)，他们的音乐蕴含一般演奏家少有的清新及生命，他们做的传统爱尔兰音乐在当时让许多音乐家大为惊艳，纷纷开始挖掘根艺术与根文化。

苏格兰的发展

苏格兰的Celtic寻根之路也有其特殊性，透过独有的小提琴(Fiddles)群奏、热情如火的苏格兰风笛(Bagpipe)，及独具的苏格兰力与美特色的 Wha Hae，很快的就从一只雏鸟到振翅高飞，有许多团体无私的的投入他们纯熟的音乐技术与热情，其中的佼佼者例如Silly Wizard、The Tannahill Weavers、Runrig，他们穿着传统的苏格兰褶裙表演，正是苏格兰传统音乐的蜕变。其中 Battlefield Band的出现更付予苏格兰风笛一个全新的生命，这是继Burns Night、Hogmanay及The Boys Of the Lough之后，对苏格兰凯尔特民谣影响最深的一件事。

英格兰的发展

这股凯尔特传统音乐潮流影响层面极广，唤醒了蕴含几世纪的能量，这股能量也到达英格兰，来自英格兰北部的风笛手Kathryn Tickell令人激赏的才华从未停止传颂Celtic的根艺术，Cornwall也是一样，以其极具英格兰的唱腔唱着自己的文化历史之歌。 Cornish 认为音乐必需去挖掘并纪录。也有许多好事发生在英格兰的根音乐发展之路上，全来自于奇妙的音乐融合，例如与英国乡村乐(English Country Music)、牙买加的雷鬼(Reggae)、印度的邦拉(Bhangra)，而令人敬佩的传统民谣摇滚(Folk-rock)艺人Ashley Hutchings，他与 Fairport Convention及Steeleye Span乐团做出很大贡献。

威尔士的发展

多年以前威尔士似乎是被Celtic复兴运动遗忘的一群，威尔士是个充满音乐的国度，很显然的没有任何一种音乐能超越影响力更大的「诗人与 艺术家年会之声」(Eisteddfod Choirs )这类的传统古典乐。严苛的卫理公会(Methodist，由John Weskey创建的一种基督教教派)在八十年代 复兴后，抹去了古老的凯尔特传统，就像拿个大槌子重击了威尔士的语言一样。不管怎样，威尔士语言及文化至今还是保存下来了，就像 Ar Log这个乐团及其他团体，很费力的以他们的威尔士语摇滚乐前进。

布列塔尼的发展

法国西北部的Brittany(布列塔尼省)也是Celtic的版图。十五及十六世纪时，随着大不列颠盎格鲁撒克逊人(Anglo-Saxon)的入侵传了进来，布 列塔尼语言及多采多姿的传统歌曲和舞蹈至今都还保留了下来。近几年，布列塔尼也成为Celtic Music的主要发展圣地，全赖这位热情洋溢的 竖琴手Alan Stivell的努力，他所带领的民谣谣滚乐团成功的推向国际，另外，吉他手Gabriel Yacoub及Dan Ar Bras也是国际有名的人物。

加里西亚的发展

传统Celtic文化也有部份存在于意大利和土耳其，但是最好的凯尔特堡垒还是在大西洋沿岸西班牙的Asturias及Galicia(加里西亚)两个省。在那里苏格兰风笛有许多不同的造型、型式及大小，至今都还有许多乐手在使用，不过近几年摇弦琴(Hurdy Gurdy)也大受欢迎。西班牙的苏格兰风笛学校的技术也大大的让苏格兰人妒嫉。

魁北克的发展

加拿的的魁北克一直未受到世人的注意，对Celtic的核心领域来说实在远了一点，不过也正因为如此，才能发展出与其他地方不一样的味道， 在与New Age及美式的Jazz融合之后，找到了属于魁北克自己的Celtic道路。 Celtic女诗人Loreena McKennitt(萝琳娜麦肯尼特)融入了属于 New Age惯用的竖琴，及在传统的Jigs and Reels里加入Jazz风格的La Bottine Souriante (微笑靴子乐团)，都分别在九十年代间成功的打开 了国际音乐市场，也奠定了魁北克在Celtic领域中的地位。

除此了这些地区之外，其他地区都已经模糊，随着凯尔特的遥远历史，留下来的主要还是呈现在音乐上。凯尔特音乐主要的特征，由风笛、小 提琴或是Squeeze Box来引领贯穿整首歌，佐以鲜活有致的鼓点，吉他或是Bombard做节奏而成，传统原汁的凯尔特音乐没有艰涩难懂的规则， 只有纯净、感觉，及丰富的生命力。
